Hi. We are refinishing old oak hardwood flooring which squeaks. Do we attempt to fix the squeaks (ie graphite powder or nails) before or after we re-varnish?
Thanks!

    Before.
Any nails driven to tighten up loose places can realign the boards. This might damage a new finish.

Definitely before. You don’t want to take a chance of scratching or marring the fresh new finish.
