If so, how much did it cost and who did you go through? I’m trying to get rough estimates without having to call contractors and deal with the sales pitch. Don’t know the exact measurements but it’s for a smallish living room and hallway. We were going to do it ourselves, but if it’s not too expensive I rather have someone come do it. We’re in central New Jersey.

have you thought of looking for an unemployed handyman or contractor that is where your deal is at. one money saver is having the area prepared – pulling up the carpets yourself will save you money. don’t try to pull up the carpet in one piece. with a utility knife cut the carpet in strips, roll and duct tape to secure. do the floors need resanding or a good buffing ?? if its just buffing get some bowling alley wax n rent a buffer – that is the cleanest n cheapest method. good luck
Have just done this, but on the other side of the world! However, the method is the same. Phone up at least 3 contractors to come and give you a quote. You’ll be surprised at the difference in costs. And yes, you can pull up the carpet yourself and then prepare the floor by knocking in any nails that are above floor level, and masking-tape the skirting boards.
Most contractors have a set price per sqaure meter that they’ll give you. Having them see the job is better, and then you can see whether you want to work with them.
