I paint and sell ceramic pots online and in local garden shops. I have always used MinWax high gloss polyurethane over my acrylic painted pots. However, with certain colors, that horrible yellow color comes through and takes away from the intended colors of the artwork. But I love the way it looks otherwise….super glossy and great for water-sealing my pots (I use something different on the inside). If I switch to the water-based poly will it have the same effect and strength?
Thanks!

I want to refinish my countertop with the glass look that oil based poly offers. I know many people have done this but does anyone know for sure if oil based is safe to be around food? We will not cut on our counters or use them for major food contact, but I dont want to worry. Suggestions on best brand of poly for this project please!! Thanks!!

You can try mineral spirits.I would not bother cleaning the brushes, though. If you want to use them later with the oil-based poly, you should put the brushes inside the plastic bag, wrap it tight and place the bag into the cold place(freezer would be a perfect spot).Do not put the back inside the fridge: all your food will smell like poly…
