I’m currently moving into my brothers old room, and the floor needs to be repaired and sealed before i can place a wood floor of my choice over it.

Since it’s such an old house the boards run long ways, and a few are broken at the ends, and he smoked so the wood in the floor smells. How can I repair the floor and seal all the smell of smoke, so I can place the new flooring over it with out any problems in the future?

I thought of using flooring nails and recessing them and filling in over heads, but I really want something very permanent- maybe very thin screws?

Hi. We are refinishing old oak hardwood flooring which squeaks. Do we attempt to fix the squeaks (ie graphite powder or nails) before or after we re-varnish?
Thanks!

I’m installing an engineered wood floor in a second floor bedroom. Currently has a plywood subfloor in fairly decent shape. However there are some voids and gaps in the subfloor. What product should be used to fill these areas? Would ceramic tile adhesive work? Do the gaps between plywood sheets (maybe 1/8″ gap) need to be taped and filled?

Thanks?

I’m about to lay down some wood flooring and I need to make sure the subfloor (3/4″ plywood) is completely level. What’s the best way to do this? I was thinking about laying a 7ft straight edge down every which way but there must be a better way. Any suggestions from the pros?
