I’m currently moving into my brothers old room, and the floor needs to be repaired and sealed before i can place a wood floor of my choice over it.

Since it’s such an old house the boards run long ways, and a few are broken at the ends, and he smoked so the wood in the floor smells. How can I repair the floor and seal all the smell of smoke, so I can place the new flooring over it with out any problems in the future?

To repair squeaky wood floors, should they be nailed down first with screws, than reinforce with cement Wonder Boards to keep them secured. Please advise.

I just ripped up the carpet in my kids’ playroom and underneath is hardwood flooring. Its got a lot of paint splatter and maybe a few water stains or something. I was going to put down peel n stick vinyl tiles but now I’m wondering if it would be possible to refinish the floor instead? Would it be financially worth it? I just wanted a smooth floor for my kids’ toys to roll on and no carpets for stains. If it would cost a lot to refinish it I wouldn’t bother, or if it would be a lot of work because I’m doing this on my own. Should I try to refinish it or just put down the vinyl tiles? If you say refinish please tell me what I’d need to do that. Thanks!

I want to place down a wood floor.?

The problem: The room is not square. How can I make sure my wood floor installation will be square with the proper distance to place down shoemolds. Is there a method to this madness, I hate seeing any gaps or wood strips misalignments.

I have a second floor condo with a plywood sub floor. It is cheaper to go with the nail down installation instead of the glue down. I’m wondering what the benefits/disadvantages are with these installations.

THX!
