I have hardwood floors under my carpet and I want to tear up the carpet and sand and refinish the floors. I need some help on what equipment I need, where to get it, what to do, etc. Basically every step, start to finish.
I just bought a house with beautiful hardwoods floors in the dining room and entry way. I would like to refinish them, but have no idea where to start. I am a DIY kinda person and really don’t want to pay someone else. I also have 2 dogs is there anything I can do to protect the finish once I am done? Please give me step by step instructions in detail if you can! Thanks!
We moved into a (potentially) beautiful Harlem brownstone last fall. Unfortunately, the last time the apartment was “renovated”, the contractors were hired on the cheap. We consequently have a very nice hardwood floor that was waxed and sealed while dirty. Which means it has about ten years of dirt between the blanks and and least two weeks of human and cat hair sealed under the wax. Despite our good intentions, unfortunately, neither of us have any experience with stripping, refinishing, or waxing a hardwood floor. So, basically, how do two absolute beginners approach the stripping, cleaning, (possible) refinishing, and sealing/waxing of a hardwood floor?
I have a wood plank floor that was “finished” at one time — ’bout 65 years ago.. Since then it has been covered with carpet and the finish is pretty much gone. There are no gaps/chips/rot… How can I redo these (with a light finish) on a budget? I think I’d have to sand them lightly —- thats all I know
I have Bruce flooring that has received some minor water damage. The finish has come off, but the wood looks fine. Can we just sand it down with a hand sander and reapply a clear finish? This would just be a quick temporary fix since we are looking at replacing the flooring in the whole room in a few years.
